Chrome to Warn Against Sites Doing Overcharges, Extra Bills

The new version of Chrome 71 will be able to warn users about sites where they are likely to be overcharged or billed without their consent. Such practices are seen on mobile billing services, where a phone number alone is needed to bill the customers a little extra.

There is abundance of sites where mobile subscriptions aren’t clearly displayed or do not offer enough transparency. With the new Chrome feature, such websites will have to take more steps to make their billing and charging policies clear to site visitors.

Some of the shady practices involve using gray text on a white background, making it difficult to read clearly, or cases where dsplays of fee structures too aren’t clearly conveyed. With Chrome 71, surfers will receive an alert when pages do not offer clear costs and billing information.
